Photography for Kids
Ages 8-14
6 sessions, 1.5 hours each
In our highly visual world, Photography has emerged as powerful means of expression for all ages. This course will include basics of camera use (digital and film), fundamentals of composition, and pointers on finding a “voice” through photography. Work will be shared and critiqued weekly.
Creative Writing Workshop
Ages 8-10 and 11-14
6 sessions, 1.5 hours each
In this relaxed forum, students will be introduced to and encouraged to apply principles of good writing in their own work while maintaining the freedom to create on their own terms. They will learn to share and critique in gentle, positive ways so all group members can grow as writers. read Helene's latest article
Who’s Afraid of Math?
Ages 8-10
6 sessions, 1 hour each
“I don’t get it.” This simple statement can create tremendous anxiety in those who feel that way about math. This course will focus on identifying individual barriers and how to break through them for greater understanding without fear.
Science of the Everyday World
Ages 8-10
6 sessions, 1 hour each
Children’s natural curiosity about everyday things will drive this course. Students will be guided to pose scientific questions and find answers through creative projects including cooking and art, as well as game--play and design.
Finding Common Ground
Ages 11-14
6 Sessions, 1 hour each
This open forum will allow students to pose and discuss fundamental questions about domestic and global issues as well as their potential solutions. They may choose to participate in a global correspondence program sponsored by the Peace Corps.
Reading Buddies
All ages
Ongoing, Volunteer
Partnership is a powerful teaching and learning tool. In this program, volunteers will build bridges in their communities by reading with students in need.
